My Fathers 1985 Bear Attack

Working title: Into the Maw

I am new and inexperienced in all of this, however I have a vision and no way of knowing where to start. So I figured this small group of professionals could steer me the right direction or even let me know if I have a story worth telling.

July 1985 my father and cousin were taking an intended road trip from Elmendorf Air Force base to Davis-Monthan in Arizona. Along the way they saw a black bear and stopped to take some photos to bring back. They didn’t know what was about to unfold was a fight for their lives. The bear actively hunted them and isolated them from the truck. I silently crept to within 2 feet of the cousin before my father made a run for a gun. He didn’t even get his first step planted before the bear latched on to his thigh. What ensued was a fight between man and beast , trading blow for blow. My father beating in the bear, the bear rearing up and throwing him to the ground. My father calling for help and then being given an opportunity to turn the tables, he grabs a bears balls. The bear flips him and tries to kill him. He’s unconscious, the cousin charges in with his Rambo knife and slices the bears neck , spine to throat. They have a 2 hour harrowing journey to medical care.

This story is 100% true and condensed for this post. I see a story with big screen potential but I’m curious if only because it’s my father’s tale? This story has never been told outside of our family. Any and all feedback is appreciated
