The Boring Company announced on May 5, 2026 that it has reached an agreement with Nashville developer Giarratana to build a Church Street tunnel station inside the parking garage of the Prime tower at 805 Church Street, with residents of three adjacent buildings, Prime, Alcove Apartments, and the under-construction Paramount Nashville, able to take a building elevator directly to the station and board a Tesla vehicle without entering street level.  The station addition is part of the Music City Loop, a privately funded 19-mile underground tunnel circuit connecting downtown Nashville to Nashville International Airport using Tesla Model Y and Model X vehicles operated by trained Loop drivers, with tunneling launched in late February 2026 from a site near the state Capitol at 637 Rosa Parks Boulevard.  The Boring Company states that travel time between downtown and the airport will be approximately 9 minutes, with Tesla vehicles traveling up to 70 mph through twin unidirectional tunnels at a target depth of 30 feet, and the company has said part of the Loop will be operational in 2027.

The Church Street station announcement reflects a broader station acquisition strategy in which The Boring Company is negotiating access agreements with private landowners along the tunnel route rather than relying on public right-of-way for all station locations.  The project is entirely privately funded, though the Tennessee state legislature has introduced legislation to establish a new oversight authority with jurisdiction over all subterranean transit systems using electric and autonomous vehicles statewide, a development that would subject the Loop to public regulatory review despite its private financing structure.  Transit Now Nashville, a local advocacy organization, has formally opposed the project, citing concerns about tunneling stability through Nashville’s hard limestone geology and the displacement of public transit investment toward a single-operator, fare-based system that serves residential towers rather than the broader commuter population.

The Music City Loop has no peer-reviewed independent safety or feasibility assessment publicly available as of this writing, and The Boring Company has not disclosed ridership capacity projections, fare structures, or contingency protocols for vehicle breakdowns inside the tunnel system.  The project’s commercial viability remains unproven: The Boring Company’s only operational system, the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, has faced documented criticism for low throughput capacity relative to its projected figures, a limitation that infrastructure analysts have cited as a structural constraint of the single-vehicle-per-tunnel design.  Whether the Music City Loop’s residential station model produces sufficient ridership density to sustain private operations without public subsidy is a question the company has not publicly addressed.
