Looking for HVAC pros to rate my new dual-fuel setup and sanity check the design.
Location: Connecticut (cold winters, propane, whole-house standby generator already installed)
Goals:
reliability first
strong winter performance
lower propane usage
generator compatibility
quieter operation
long-term serviceability
New system:
Rheem RD18AY48AJVC side discharge inverter heat pump (3.5–4 ton, R-454B)
Rheem R962V1005A21M4 96% AFUE 2-stage propane furnace with variable-speed ECM blower
Rheem RCFY4821STANM cased coil
Honeywell HZ432 zone board
Honeywell T6 Pro WiFi thermostats
Aprilaire humidifier
outdoor temp sensor mounted north-facing on house
elevated heat pump stand bolted to concrete pad for snow clearance
AG3000 surge protector at disconnect
I chose dual fuel instead of full electric because I already have propane + standby generator and wanted better resilience during winter storms. I also stayed with Honeywell zoning instead of Rheem EcoNet because I wanted easier serviceability and flexibility to switch thermostats later if needed.
Questions:
Does this overall equipment pairing make sense?
Is Honeywell + HZ432 the right move vs EcoNet for this setup?
Good starting dual-fuel lockout temp for CT? I’m thinking around 20°F
Would you leave blower airflow at full 4-ton CFM or soften closer to 3.5-ton for quieter zoning comfort?
Anything else you’d specifically verify before final commissioning?
Trying to make sure this is a strong long-term setup and not overcomplicated.
