NEEDED advice for recent application

I applied to a job recently and im super interested. I was told I'd likely hear back this week but have not. A few days ago i sent a thank you email and have not heard back. Should i call the person i interviewed with to show my interest furthur and risk looking desparate or do i wait to hear back. Advice please.
