How are the maps different?

The game has been out for quite some time now and I want to get into it now that the enhanced version is out. I have already played the exiled lands but that was years ago. I have no experience with recent content updates. How are the maps different considering the content? I saw that there was a companion update where they added voiced companions. Are those companions and there quests on both maps or only one of them.
