my first time fixing/building up a bike, getting back into it after almost 20 years of not riding.. still a WIP as i figure out what i'm doing... scungy & slightly rusty 1998 shogun trail breaker 1 i bought cos i had a similar blue shogun as a kid. it's maybe a little bit small for me but i love how it feels! also makes it easier to get on with a baby seat on the back.

built up with parts from 2 other trail breakers i found in hard rubbish..... the original drive side crank was cracked & chainrings weirdly torn up, so i took cranks & chainrings from a 1992 white TB1, which looks nice but is heavier & not as fun to ride (it's not one of the beautiful earlier made in japan ones i dream about)..

on the original wheels i at first put billy bonkers, because they looked cool. they were fun but i don't have the experience to know if i really like them or not. anyway those wheels were a bit warped and eventually a spoke broke. i'll fix that and try my hand at truing them eventually but for now i swapped in the wheels off the 3rd trail breaker, with whatever crap old tyres were on them. knobby mtb tyres are probably more suited to the terrain around here =)

got these cheapo swept/riser handlebars which are nicely wide, but they really needed a longer stem than the orig, so also took this stem from the 3rd rubbish bike. i have some random bmx handlebars i found which i wouldn't mind trying some time, when i get a stem for it..

cleaned and regreased the BB and rear hub bearing so far - extremely satisfying to learn how to do! i love this bike. BTW that 3rd bike i found, i have plans for.. it's a '96 trail breaker 2 which someone put out on the curb just down the street from my house 😮 couldn't believe it... nice dark metallic purpleish/burgundy frame in awesome condition & actually the right size for me (seems rare around here).. the BB is grindy & wobbly, shifters very sticky, chain a mass of rust etc, so i reckon that bike deserves a full build with fancy new parts. one day..
