Job in bank halal or haram?

I recently got an opportunity for a technical AI/software engineering role at a major bank in the UAE, and I’ve been thinking a lot about whether it would be considered halal or not.

The role itself is mostly focused on AI systems, automation, backend engineering, and internal platforms. It doesn’t directly involve handling loans, interest calculations, or financial decision-making (at least from what I understand).

I know there are different scholarly opinions regarding working in conventional banks, especially for IT/engineering roles, so I wanted to hear different perspectives from people who are knowledgeable or have been in similar situations.

Would working in a purely technical role still be considered impermissible because it supports the institution overall? Or is there a distinction between direct involvement in riba vs indirect technical work?
