Schedule maker

Whats the benefit of being the schedule maker in the group? I noticed in my last 2 groups, the schedule maker has been the person who typically holds a high leadership position. From the outside, it seems like the least desirable position as making a schedule for a big group seems like a nightmare. Is there some hidden benefit im not seeing?
