She moved on and is doing things with him we shared together. Please help me understand, I just want the truth.
We were together for about a year. During that time, I developed an opiate addiction, and it started affecting her financially. I was also lying about it. That’s ultimately why we broke up.
A few weeks later, I asked her to sit down and talk. I didn’t beg for her back—I just took full responsibility for everything I did wrong. I apologized sincerely and told her I would never treat someone I love like that again. She told me she’ll always care about me, and that she does love me, but she hopes I never treat anyone like that again.
About a week later, we ended up in a situationship that lasted a few weeks. During that time, I asked her if we might ever have another chance in the future. She said, “Honestly, I don’t know.”
I ended things after I noticed something that didn’t sit right with me. She had gone out to a steakhouse (I saw it on Snapchat), but later she texted me saying she had been asleep all night. I asked her why she lied, and she turned it back on me, saying I was being controlling and watching her. I wasn’t—I just didn’t understand why she would lie, especially since she never used to. Her response was, “I literally don’t have an answer.”
Around that same time, I noticed she had taken down all our photos. I told her I wasn’t going to see anyone else, and she said, “I’m not actively seeing anybody else.” After all of that, I realized I couldn’t keep doing the situationship emotionally, so I told her I needed to step back. She said she understood, told me she hoped I find peace and heal, and asked for her stuff back.
About a month later, she texted me asking about a new job I got and said “great job.” That was it.
Now I’ve found out she’s seeing someone new, and honestly, this is what’s been hitting me the hardest. She posted a picture of them together at a WWE show. WWE wasn’t just some random thing—it was our thing. I was the one who introduced her to it, and it became something we bonded over and shared together. Seeing her now doing that same thing with another guy so soon after everything just feels like something that was meaningful to me got replaced really quickly.
What made it hurt even more is that she wasn’t just there with him—she was also there with a girl who openly didn’t like me. So not only am I seeing her share something that meant a lot to us with someone new, but she’s doing it alongside someone who has negative feelings toward me. That combination honestly made it hit way harder than I expected.
I want her to be happy. I really do. If this guy is right for her, then I wish them the best. But seeing her move on like that, especially in a way that overlaps so directly with something we shared, has been really hard to process.
I’m not here to bash her. I just genuinely want help understanding what might be going through her mind. I don’t want sugarcoating—I want honesty. I know I hurt her, and I take full accountability for that.
One thing I’ll add: we both took a Big Five personality test, and she scored in the 98th percentile for withdrawal, which is extremely high. I don’t want to jump to labeling her as avoidant or anything like that, but I’m trying to make sense of her behavior.
Can anyone help me understand this from the outside?
