24M Chemical Engineer - $78k Income Based in the US
Assalamu Alaikum,
I’m 24, living in Minnesota, and working as an entry-level chemical engineer.
Income & Expenses
- Salary: $78.2k pre-bonus
- Monthly expenses: ~$2k
Current holdings
- SPUS, SPWO, SPSK, GLDM
- SOL (smallest holding – just for crypto exposure / growth potential)
- Individual stocks: ASML, ETN, CCJ (to balance tech-heavy SPUS/SPWO) Halal according to Musaffa and Zoya.
Account setup
- 401k: 20% contribution (12% Roth, 8% pre-tax) + 4% employer match – using a self-directed brokerage window (employer allowed it after I asked so its basically a brokerage account in terms of me being able to pick basically whatever etf/stocks I want to)
- HSA: maxing monthly (no interest after I asked, and can Invest in whatever as well)
- Roth IRA: maxing at $7,500/year + 3% match
- Taxable brokerage: all remaining leftover funds
Target allocation
I want my equity ETFs (SPUS/SPWO) split 60% US / 40% International.
My Main question
Given my holdings, what would be the most optimized way to allocate them across account types (401k, Roth IRA, HSA, taxable)?
SPUS and SPWO should be the bulk, but I’m unsure what percentage each account should hold and of which investments are best in each account type.
I want to set up biweekly recurring investments and forget it. Any advice is appreciated.
JazakAllah khair.
