Incoming PhD at UB – looking for off-campus housing near North Campus (<$1000, no car) Hey everyone,

Housing and Dorms

I’m an incoming PhD student at UB (North Campus) this fall and trying to figure out off-campus housing. Would really appreciate any advice or experiences.

My situation:

Budget: under $1000/month (including utilities if possible)

Need to be within ~20 min bike ride to North Campus

Ideally near shuttle stops

No car for at least the first year

I’ve been checking a few places already:

1.Villas at Chestnut Ridge (2b2b, decent but kinda pricey)

  1. Block 20 (nice but also on the expensive side)

  2. Copley Court Apartments / 1357 Millersport Hwy (2b around ~$800, but I literally can’t find many reviews, not sure if that’s a red flag or just new/low-key)

  3. University Village at Sweethome (cheap, but reviews seem pretty mixed/bad)

  4. Amherst Manor Apartments (cheap too, but again not much info online)

Has anyone lived in any of these or knows what they’re actually like (management, safety, noise, maintenance, etc.)?

Also open to any other recommendations that fit my budget + location.

And if these apartments don’t work out… where do people usually find room rentals in shared houses around Buffalo? I’ve been looking on Zillow/Apartments.com but most stuff is full units, not individual rooms.

Thanks a lot.
