Am I crazy for feeling disappointed with a “16 LPA” offer?
Currently working at a company with 11+ LPA CTC in a tiny service based company with 70 employees and I get around 90k in-hand per month because the structure is pretty straightforward (mostly only PF deductions).
Recently got an offer from a reputed product based company for 16 LPA + 18% variable + 1 lakh joining bonus. Initially I assumed the 16 was fixed and variable was on top of it.
But after receiving the breakup, I realized:
- Actual fixed cash is closer to 13.8L
- Employer PF, gratuity, etc are included in the 16
- Estimated in-hand is only around 98k/month
So effectively, I’d be switching companies, resetting tenure, taking risk, etc for roughly 6k–8k extra per month.
What’s confusing me is that psychologically “16 LPA” sounded like a huge jump from 11, but in reality it barely changes my monthly life.
Now I’m genuinely confused:
- Is this just how most Indian corporates structure compensation?
- Am I overthinking the monthly difference?
- Does the brand justify the move long-term?
- Or should I stay unless the fixed component improves significantly?
- Is 98k in-hand correct for 16 LPA?
Would really appreciate honest opinions from people who’ve faced similar situations.
