Experience with canary pox?

Curious what folks have experienced with this disease. I live in the sub tropics and was imagining building an aviary and adopting a pair of canaries BUT I’ve been reading about canary pox and now I’m thinking it may be a bad idea. We 100% have plenty of mosquitos where I live (coast along the Gulf of Mexico).

Is this a major risk? Do folks have recommendations on preventative measures? I’m still very much in the planning mode so if it’s a bad idea, I’ll simply abandon the notion.
