Does the 3-6 month emergency fund advice need an update?

I'm hearing more and more about people with 1+ years of unemployment. Should 12-18 months of living expenses be the new norm for a liquid emerg fund?

I get the real answer is it depends on your personal circumstances but it would be nice to hear what other people think and if anyone crunched the numbers by industry or demographic.
