Wife and I both had a bad reaction to DG Day Time Severe Cold and Flu Relief. Is this common and what should we do?

We have both been super sick so I decided to pick up some medicine. We have never had issues with the generic brands so I went with the DG brand of what is essentially DayQuil. This medication is supposed to be Non Drowsy. I took it first and had a terrible reaction. Just thought “okay maybe it was just a rare circumstance.” 2 days later my wife takes it and has the same reaction. We both can only describe it as an out of body experience. Floating in and out of sleep while almost being fully aware of what is going on. Slurred speech and overwhelming confusion. My wife and I do not use drugs aside from nicotine, nor do we take any regular daily medications. This was a horrible experience for both of us. The last time I remember experiencing anything even remotely similar was when I was coming off of the anesthesia from getting my wisdom teeth removed. Is this a normal thing? Should we have the medicine tested for contamination? This has been terrifying and insane.
