lost track of time completely on a cruise
I completely lost track of time on the cruise and I didn't realize how badly I needed that
Day four someone asked me what day it was and I genuinely had no idea. Not in a jokey way. In a real way where I had to actually think about it and still wasn't sure.
Tuesday? Maybe Wednesday. Does it matter.
At home I know what time it is every single second. Phone. Microwave. Car dashboard. The clock in the office that I stare at more than I'd like to admit. Time is everywhere at home and it is always telling you that you're behind on something.
On the ship it just quietly stopped mattering. Meals happened when you were hungry. Sleep happened when you were tired. The sun went down and you watched it go and then you found something else to do or you didn't.
Nobody was waiting on me. Nothing was due. My out of office was on and it could stay on forever as far as I was concerned.
I didn't realize how much of my anxiety at home is just time pressure wearing a different outfit until I spent a week completely free of it.
Coming back to alarms and calendars and the little notification badges on every app hit differently after that. Like returning to a noise I had briefly forgotten existed.
I think about that week more than I probably should.
Has anyone else noticed how much of normal life is just being aware of the time and quietly stressing about it.
