When you're told you're a "good looking guy" but still feel the need to change your appearance

I always thought I was NOT good looking (was not overly happy with my face or body) until my late 20s when I was told by someone "you're a good looking guy". Others have stated the same, even recently, despite thinning hair. Lifted weights to address being skinny in my youth and my build is more "average" now.

That said, I've developed a strong urge to do a makeover. Instead of a bland clean cut look have pondered the idea of piercings (including facial piercings like nose or eyebrow), styling my hair differently, dyeing my hair an odd color, and clothing. For example, wanting to wear "ripped/distressed jeans" or capris with sandals instead of chinos, polo shirt, etc. I am repelled by the idea of wearing a suit. Despite being middle aged, my preferred style seems to be closer to a 20 something year old woman over a middle aged dude. Did any of you go through something similar? I'm not sure if it's a midlife crisis thing (i.e. wanting to be more alt despite not having an alt background) or there is something more to it.
