Husband was wrongfully arrested for a missed court date that hasn't come to pass.

Traffic and Parking

Location: Florida. Last night two sheriff's officers came to my door, and promptly put my husband in handcuffs for failure to appear at traffic court. Problem is- the court date is for May 12th, which has not come to pass. They didn't care about that, only stating he had an active warrant for failure to appear and took him away. They proceeded to take him to jail and begin the booking process before SOMEONE finally looked at the ticket and realized the mistake. Meanwhile, I'm at home researching the process of how to bond him out because neither of us have ever been in trouble before and have no idea what's going on. You can imagine my shock when about an hour and a half later they drop him back on our doorstep with ANOTHER court date for June 2nd. After the initial relief passed, I'm livid now.

We contacted the county clerk to confirm which court date he actually needs to appear to, and they told us to disregard the June 2nd date. We also requested they push up the initial court date so we can get our ducks in a row, they agreed and we are awaiting notice for that now. The clerk themselves was incredibly confused as apparently- this doesn't happen. Naturally, we have a lot of concerns. Mainly whether or not there's still an active warrant out for him, but secondary concerns that they'll reissue a warrant for the second court date. I feel strongly we need to seek legal counsel but like I said, neither of us have ever been in trouble and have no idea where to begin. We also don't have money for a massive retainer. I get everyone makes mistakes but this mistake could've ruined our lives and we need to make sure it's resolved in its entirety. Any advice would be appreciated as it seems this is a pretty unique scenario.
