Constructive Idea Re:Character Update
This will likely just be drowned out by the flood of harsher posts, but nonetheless, an idea…
I feel like a lot of the friction caused by the off hand flashlight – both visually and in terms of inventory management – could be solved by making that hand the dedicated LIGHTER slot instead. Move the flashlight back to the right hand and the character place the flashlight on their shoulder when it isn’t the main item. If the left hand then always holds the lighter instead, it would thematically explain it having a dedicated inventory slot, allow for that hand to remain off screen most of the time, and also feed naturally into the existing animations for lighting a candle or a smudge. They could add a new key bind that is something like a single press toggles the lighter on/off and holding that same key raises the arm to view the watch. When the lighter is off and the watch isn’t being viewed, the hand would just be completely off screen. To me, this seems like it would smooth out the confusion of cycling past the “empty right hand” flashlight slot and also remove the need to cycle past the lighter altogether when switching items. It would get the flashlight off screen again except when it’s deliberately in hand, and it would fix the issue of the watch key bind only being useable with an empty hand.
