Spanish accent from Bogota
Hello everyone!
I’m a student from France who learned Spanish a few years ago. The three classes I have ever had of Spanish or simply in Spanish were given by people from the city of Bogota. For some reason, speaking Spanish has always been easier for me than understanding what people tell me in Spanish.
I was wondering about your opinion on this: I feel like the accent of Bogota (rolo if I’m not mistaken) is the easiest to understand for a non-native Spanish speaker or wannabe speaker. I may lack objectivity but I feel like this is the most neutral I’ve ever heard. I’ve spent months in Madrid, met people from many different Spanish speaking places but the different accents never seemed as easy, default-ish as the rolo. I want to clarify that I got to speak Spanish with the aforementioned teachers in a normal way (meaning not deliberately slow for beginners to understand).
Similarly, I know she’s from Mexico but I usually manage to understand most of the lyrics in songs from Natalia Lafourcade, and Mexicans have been part of the people I understood the best (besides some specific words which seem numerous).
But for example, when I asked some people where they’re from and they told me they’re Andalusian, I usually responded something like “oh that’s why I don’t understand anything you say!” (respectfully and all ofc.)
Is it just me having preferences or being influenced by the people I’ve learned from? Or do you guys agree that rolo is somehow more neutral and more accessible?
