Is it common to experience overpriced services and cleanliness issues as a tourist in Paris?

Discussion

Just returned from Paris and wanted to share my experience and ask if others have faced similar issues.

On arrival from Paris-Beauvais Airport (BVA), my Uber driver took a noticeably longer route to the hotel, skipping at least two toll stations. I only realized this on the return trip when a different driver took a shorter, direct route and paid the tolls properly. The first driver also made us wait unnecessarily.

Beyond that, Paris felt surprisingly dirty far from the image I had expected. The cleanliness in many areas was genuinely disappointing.

On top of everything, prices were significantly higher than expected across the board.

Is this a common experience for tourists? Any tips on avoiding these issues on a future visit?
