Whats the point of trying for a good ATAR?

General Question/comment

Im not sure how this applies to other fields, but I want to get into engineering/computerscience and machine learning, It just feels unfair that I'm forced to have my ATAR depend on and study for unecessary subjects that will have nothing to do with my future or career.

I know that medecine highly depends on getting a good ATAR, but why the fuck does me flunking my Philosophy 3/4 class meaning my likeliness of getting into medecine go down, what in the world does philosophy have to do with medecine?

I'm doing pretty great academically, so I wish I could just skip all the fluff and just get on with developing the skills and learning the content Im eventually going to do in University so I can get ahead and have an easier time you know? It just seems so unfair that I have to waste my time studying about arbritrary stuff. Does anyone else feel the same?
