Squash

I'm in zone 8a and I started squash and zucchini from seed indoors...I planted both after hardening them off and my zucchini is doing just fine but my squash seems to be getting smaller and just looking pretty terrible. Is it too late to just pull the squash and direct seed into my bed? TIA
