Attempting to bridge the gap
Attempting to bridge the gap
Edit - I realized after posting that this I posted in the original HD reddit. Either way, if requested I will remove it.
I wanted to make this post as a kind of "translation fix" in response to, what I think, is the disconnect between much of the reddit subs, Steam reviews, etc. I wish to clear the air and perhaps foster some understanding.
For transparency, I am one of the people who has negatively reviewed the game, and I don't like it.
My review used to be positive. I followed the game for years. I literally got goosebumps and cried a bit when the ODST-HD2 crossover was announced, and eventually bought it during siege of Cyberstan. I played nearly every day after work. I was excited when I beat my first D10. I cheered when I called in my first 500kg and blew a Vox Engine to hell.
Now I don't even want to look at the desktop icon out of frustration.
It goes beyond "just lower the difficulty bro." Many of us are tired of false promises. And it's further discouraging when many of us that have, what I believe, are valid concerns are then dismissed with statements like "skill issue," "just lower the difficulty," "go play another game." I ask you, if the roles were reversed, would you be okay with being told that?
I don't want to hate the game or Arrowhead. They both have so much potential, yet it is squandered.
I understand no game is perfect. It would be dumb to expect a game without bugs, problems, etc. But AH has repeatedly demonstrated that they cannot or will not even address basic QoL things that many people have requested. They couldn't even be bothered to fix its barebones "story announcements titles" for M.Os, or at least make an excuse saying "it's easier to track" or something.
Maybe it's silly of me to be miserable. But considering I grew up in the glory days of Halo and Killzone, and looking at the states they are in now, I was hoping HD2 would last longer and bring back some of that old joy. And I don't think I am alone in this sentiment.
At any rate, thanks for reading if you got this far.
See you on the frontlines, Divers.
