My mother gets mad when she sees how pain tolerant i am.
I 17f has been diagnosed as chronically ill for 7-8 years, disabled since birth, with more diagnoses as time went on. I have a very high pain tolerance, but since im young and a woman, a lot of people either dont believe me or think i am being dramatic.
I got all four wisdom teeth surgically removed 2 days ago, they were stuck in my jaw and causing major problems and were hurting a bit, i waited abt 3 months for this surgery. I also got scar tissue from my mouth removed aswell.
My family (mostly my mother) has been telling me how much pain im going to be in, and how im going to live with ice packs on my face, and that i will need a break from taking care of my pets and chores (a dog, fish, 2 parrots, cooking, cleaning, laundry).
I have forgotten to take my pain meds multiple times, i have been carrying on like completely normal. The ice packs are too much of a hassle (I can't wear my noise-canceling headphones with it on, i am also MSN ASD). So I just dont wear it, basically it's like i never got a surgery other than my face looking like a chipmunk.
My mother would get so mad? or confused? When i said i forgot my meds, then she would scold me, saying, "Doesn't it hurt?!" and i say no, and she is just so upset about it.
My mother also claims to be very pain-tolerant, but she will scream and cry about a bee sting for over a week after it happened. She acts like getting her own wisdom teeth removed was like going through a war.
It's just funny to me, really, a little satisfying as well, it really puts into perspective because i have sobbed over how bad my migraines or my joint pain is, i use a cane and whatnot, and compared to surgery, I literally feel nothing. (I have had a couple)
I dont know what to do to get her off my back a little bit. It's interesting the first few times, but it gets very irritating after a while. It kinda feels invalidating in a way.
