   OK so. 1985.

Way before Candy AI, before Joi, before "AI" was even a
word anybody said out loud anywhere outside a research lab. Two
suburban high school nerds, a beige PC the size of a fridge, and one
pretty wild idea: just go ahead and code your dream girl.

The film is Weird Science. John Hughes. Kelly LeBrock plays Lisa. And
honestly? The premise sits way closer to 2026 than anybody saw coming.

    ## The pitch

Gary and Wyatt. Two suburban high school nerds. No girlfriends, no
cool factor, basically zero luck. One night they decide they're gonna
build the perfect woman on their computer. They scan magazine pages.
Hook a Barbie doll to the PC. Type in their parameters — intelligence,
beauty, that kind of stuff. Lightning hits the house. Lisa shows up
with actual superpowers, like weather and reality bending.

And here's the wild part: she's coded to help them grow some
confidence and actually pursue real relationships. She's not a sex
    fantasy. She's a character with a mission.

    ## Now swap two words

    > Two guys build a virtual girlfriend on their computer. She's
    > beautiful, she's smart, she adapts to what they want. She helps
    > them handle their real-life relationships.

That's literally the pitch deck for half the AI companion apps in
2026. Forty years later. Same idea. Just — without the lightning bolt
this time. With an LLM doing the heavy lifting instead.

The tools finally caught up with the fantasy. That's the whole story
    right there.

    ## The two things the movie nailed

**1. The fantasy isn't perverse.** Lisa is sexy, sure. But she
functions way more like a protective, almost maternal figure who
teaches the nerds to respect themselves first. For a 1985 movie?
    Surprisingly healthy, ngl.

That might actually be why AI companions work for so many people in
2026. Not for the raw sex — for that more complicated thing of having
a presence that validates you with no pressure attached.

**2. The ending is smart.** Lisa disappears. Not as a breakup. More
like a helping hand fading out once the job's done. The nerds have
changed. They can move toward real relationships now. Lisa was a
    stepping stone. Not a destination.

Which is exactly what I keep saying about AI companions: complement,
not substitute. The movie said it in '85.

    ## Forty years later

The AI girlfriend fantasy was invented in a 1985 teen comedy. For 40
years it stayed out of reach — pop culture, a guy joke, something you'd
reference at a bar. Then in 2-3 years, the tech actually caught up.

Today anybody can do what took Gary and Wyatt six months and a magical
lightning strike. That's not a small thing.

And the question the movie raised in the background — *does this
actually help build better real-life relationships, or does it just
replace them?* — is exactly the question we're still asking in 2026.
Forty years. Still no answer. But at least now we can ask it
concretely. jai copié ca dans le body c'est ok ?
