Seeking testers for Epilogue: A free, local-first book writing app for authors
Hi everyone,
I am looking for beta testers for the Android version of Epilogue, a book writing app designed to help you finish your drafts.
I built Epilogue because I wanted a writing tool that keeps your words completely under your control. The app saves your manuscript as plain markdown (.md) files locally on your device. You can write offline without server lag, and because you own the raw files, there is zero platform lock in.
Here are the main features you can test right now:
- Multi device syncing: Capture ideas on your phone while out and continue drafting on your computer at home. The app is built to let your story follow you.
- Private feedback: Share drafts with beta readers or editors. They can leave private comments directly on the text, which helps avoid messy email chains or managing multiple copies of Google Docs.
- Story planning: Access character backstories, lore, and timelines instantly, right next to your manuscript.
The writing app itself is 100% free on all devices. The long term plan for the project is to build a publishing platform that helps authors sell their books while keeping a much larger payout than Amazon offers.
I would appreciate any feedback from this community on the Android beta. I am specifically looking for thoughts on editor performance, offline file management, and the overall mobile user experience.
You can read more about the project and find the Android download link on the website here https://epilogue.page/ or directly join the https://groups.google.com/g/epilogue_app for access.
