Adopting an aesthetic isn't self-expression
What the title says. I can't wrap my head around how people think adopting an aesthetic (especially as a purist) is showing signs of a personality. Confining yourself in a box someone else has devised and developed does not mean you yourself have any of the characteristics of that person or group of people. It's just a mimicking behavior and not evidence of personal creative thinking and taste. Care to discuss?
