Guide to confession (help please)

This is abit of a dumb question but can someone provide like a detailed account of how to do confession.

Like I understand the act of contrition and like how to list my sins but like how do I start off… I always end up just staring at the priest and he stares back like we’re both waiting for each other to say something. When do I make the sign of the cross and do I say anything?
