Damned if I do and damned if I don’t
I was regularly taking spironolactone for my flares and it was working wonderfully. I noticed I haven’t had any flares for several weeks which was a rarity since I’d break out once or twice a month and suffer for a week or two. However, I started to notice my face was super super dry. In the morning I’d wake up and it was flaky and painful, and then whenever I put moisturizer on, my whole face would sting. It was also very red and raw, constantly looked like I had sunburn. Turns out a side effect of spironolactone is drying you out, something I didn’t think of at first but then it all made sense.
So I stoped taking the spironolactone for a few weeks and here I am, my face skin barrier is better but I have three small flares going on and I’m feeling so damn upset. Do I really gotta choose between my face or ass (where my flees normally occur)??
I guess with this trial and error I’ll go back on the spironolactone and see if extra hydration to my face keeps it plump and moist. Cause not having flares really improved my quality of life.
