I’ve seen some absolutely disgusting behavior this week...

I hope I don’t get accused of being part of the problem for posting this (along with examples), especially after the crazy stuff regarding rpfing last week, though this has nothing to do with that, but I’m genuinely curious.

I’ve been a lurker and occasional participant in a few online fandoms since the 90s and I’ve never encountered such vitriolic behavior and so many smear campaigns aimed to hurt actual actors. What are your thoughts on people literally taking shots at H and C personally via insults, personal attacks, inventing scenarios to pit them against each other?

One in particular on Threads, which is apparently the new X-adjacent toxic online playground for psychos, suggesting crazy shit about Connor having had (using spoiler marking in case specific examples don’t appeal to you in this discussion) >!cosmetic enhancement on his backside, among other much worse accusations regarding a sexual side hustle, which they claimed to have a former close personal source, and this particular user was called out by another as perhaps being a friend of C’s ex bf.

C wasn’t the only target. H received quite a bit of their vitriol, as well with suggestions that they aren’t really friends, that it’s all a PR show, that H is riding C’s more talented coattails!<

I guess I’m just a bit flabbergasted (or perhaps just naive) as to what the endgame is for these people. What’s the point of so desperately trying to destroy a persons personal reputation as well as their career, which is just taking off? Thoughts?
