Starting a Small Herb Garden at Home What Worked Well and What I’d Skip
So I finally started a small herb garden at home because I was tired of buying herbs from the store and watching them go bad in like 2 days.
I kept it super simple. Just a few pots on my windowsill. I went with basil, mint, and parsley to start. Honestly basil and mint were the easiest by far. They basically grew like crazy once they got enough sun.
What worked really well for me was not overthinking it. Good drainage pots, regular potting soil, and just making sure they get decent sunlight. I was watering them too much at first and that was killing stuff faster than anything else. Once I backed off a bit, things got way better.
Also rotating the pots every few days helped a lot so one side was not always getting all the light.
Now what I would skip. First, planting too many herbs at once. I got excited and tried like 6 different ones and it just turned into chaos. Some died, some took over, not fun.
Also those tiny decorative pots look nice but they dry out super fast and stress the plants out. Bigger pots made everything easier.
And honestly you do not need fancy fertilizer right away. Good soil and light got me way further than I expected.
Biggest surprise was how fast mint spreads. That thing is basically unstoppable so keep it contained unless you want a mint takeover.
Overall, pretty chill hobby if you keep it simple and do not overcomplicate it like I did at the start.
