Theory for Luffy's Real Dream and Ending
So just to share a theory my noggin came up with, be warned as im not fully caught up with the current manga yet, and im not sure if anyone else has already thought of this.
For what we know, Luffy's journey to be the king of the pirates is a stepping stone for his real dream, and we haven't heard anything about it as of late, but its enough to be considered mad or near impossible, so he needs to be the king of the pirates for it to happen. What i think, based on their reactions, luffy as a character, the requirement for it, how the story is currently going, and what we know about the ending of One piece. I think his dream is to make a banquet spanning across the world of One piece. I believe in the Red Line being destroyed theory, that uniting all the people across the four seas, plus the fall of the celestial dragons, which will allow all the food they hoard to go back to the people.
Luffy, while claiming to be a selfish person, doesn't really want alot of things besides meat, and is obviously not after the title for wealth, fame, or power. So i had always found it weird that he was after such a grand title, and before the reveal that he is using it as merely a stepping stone, not the endgame, i had assumed he was just doing it for the adventure.
With the world united, the oppressors usurped, food back in the hands of the poor, and possibly the creation (and death) of the New pirate king Luffy (which, in the perspective of the rest of the world, is a monster), would ultimately fulfil his dream of a banquet around the entire world.
I doubt his plan is to literally go to Raftel and die, that's not what im saying. His idea is probably to get all the title, and celebrate with the world or something, but with what we know with the ending, and the fact that this is definitely gonna be a sad, heartbreaking, or bittersweet ending. It's likely gonna be Luffy, after helping his crew fulfil each of their dreams after breaking the red line, will sacrifice his own dream for the future of his little brother(?), which would, in turn, fulfil his own goal.
Those who are oppressed celebrate the fall of the celestial dragons, his allies celebrate Luffy's legacy, and the rest of the world celebrate the death of a villain, Oblivious that he is their savior, and the one who defeated their oppressor.
And in death, he will smile. Just like the legend before him.
