Rectal pain, bleeding during periods – colonoscopy shows rectal involvement (possible DIE)
This is my colonoscopy report.
“There was liquid stool content in places throughout the colon. Haustration patterns were normal in all segments of the colon. Vascular pattern was also normal throughout. The terminal ileum mucosa appeared normal.
In the proximal rectum (about 12 cm from the anal canal), there was an approximately 4 cm long area showing an extrinsic compressive infiltrative appearance involving about one-third of the bowel wall. In this area, the mucosa appeared hyperemic and edematous. A biopsy was taken from this site (container 1).
Internal hemorrhoids were also observed in the anal canal.”
For about 1.5 years, my periods have started with sharp, electric-like rectal pain, pain when passing gas and stool, and rectal bleeding. I also notice blood in my stool during this time.
A specialist suspected deep infiltrating endometriosis and recommended a colonoscopy, followed by planned laparoscopic surgery depending on the findings.
Has anyone experienced similar symptoms like this? It feels like the endometriosis might be located quite low in my bowel/rectal area. Has anyone with similar involvement undergone surgery? I’m honestly a bit scared about the possibility of needing a stoma, even if temporary, because it sounds like a very difficult process.
(For the bleeding, other doctors previously told me it was hemorrhoids, but it is synchronized with my menstrual cycle and only occurs at the start of my period and for the following 2 days, during which I experience rectal bleeding.)
