Big pay jump at 24 and trying not to make dumb money moves
I’m 24 and have been grinding since finishing high school. I skipped college, picked up some hands-on trade training, and now work as a machinist.
I recently got offered a new job paying $43 an hour, which felt like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I’m coming from making $27 an hour, so this kind of income feels like a huge shift and, to be real, a little intimidating. I live pretty simply, renting a room for $550 a month, keeping my total monthly expenses around $800, and walking everywhere since work and most of what I do is nearby. I’m not into expensive stuff, and what matters most to me is family, close friends, and enjoying simple hobbies like playing guitar and shooting pool. I’ve built up some savings, but I’ve never really had a plan beyond that.
Now I’m trying to figure out the smartest way to handle this next step, saving, budgeting, investing, maybe even giving some away, without messing up the foundation of my financial future. Any advice would be appreciated.
