Finally modding headlights on mk7.5 GTI

Hey all! After tussling with some health issues and working a bit. Im back and ready to mod again!
Im on the way to upgrading my headlight units (I have the non-led for the 2019).

Ive heard in the forums/community that the PRE face lift GTI requires coding from OBD11 or VCDS and POST face lift 2018+; does not. Im here asking for 2 things:
Are they lying about the process for installing the upgraded units and i will need to code?

And two, i see people really like BMP tuning brand aftermarkets, are they worth the 600+$?
