Are there any special rules for throwing out luggage?

I have a piece of luggage that has a hard shell. It's around 3 feet high, 2.5 feet wide, and 1 foot thick. Can I just put it out on the sidewalk after 6pm on the day that trash is supposed to be put out? I don't think it will fit in any bin.
