How much space do dwarf hamsters need?

Hi there.

I want to start by being abundantly clear - I do not currently have a hamster, nor will I be getting one if I cannot provide it the adequate space and care it needs.

I'm having a hard time understanding how much space a dwarf hamster would require. I currently have the means for an 80x50cm cage (4,000cm²). I know they need a hefty amount of bedding as well, I just have seen a few conflicting articles on how much floor space they need. Would it be unhappy in a 4000cm² space?

Any other advice regarding hamster care and things to consider before getting one would be immensely appreciated!
