A "Truth to Power" lyric from Noname ("Diddy Bop")

"Watching my happy block My whole neighborhood hit the Diddy bop"

• Noname, Diddy Bop (Released: July 31, 2016)

Genius Annotation:

Noname’s recollection of her Chicago childhood is a happy one – she lives on her “happy block,” and here eats ice cream and watches people dance in a truly 90s fashion.

This is an interesting recollection, seeing as Chicago is infamous for being an enduringly dangerous and violent city.

For an alternative interpretation of growing up in Chicago, see Noname collaborator Chance the Rapper’s “Summer Friends.”
