Would I enjoy AW2, if I didn't really enjoy Control's story-telling?
I just finished Control and I had a really good time. Unfortunately, I started to bounce off the story-telling style, particularly towards the last few missions. I really like Jesse as a character, but I didn't enjoy how much of the story was told through exposition / voice-over. I'm more of a 'show don't tell' kind of person. I really liked all of the tapes / case files, but in terms of the main story, I felt like I was often being told about something cool that I wish I'd seen first-hand, and it didn't feel like there was a lot of space for me to have my own take on events. (Maybe that's a product of the fact that it's a game largely about events that happened in the past?) I also felt like the ending / plot wrap-up came out of nowhere -- I was genuinely surprised when the game ended.
I am interested in playing more Remedy games, but I want to know if this story-telling style is common across them? From the small part of AW2 I saw in Control it seems inspired by Twin Peaks: The Return, which is a big plus in my book. I've seen a few plot recaps of AW1, and I am intrigued by where the story goes. However, I would like a game which is a bit less exposition-based, and with more space for me to interpret events / themes, than Control.
(P.S. I'm not trying to say the story-telling in Control is bad! I know loads of people enjoy it, and I really wish I did too. I just didn't gel with the style, sadly).
