Apartments being built surrounding my home
We bought our house almost 10 yrs ago. There is 69 acres of empty land in our back yard and some on the side of our property. When we bought the house we knew there was a possibility of the land being developed on as it is zoned as TPD and has been since 1987. We saw the original plans that were approved back in 1987, and were ok with it. Since we moved in there have been multiple owners of the property and we even contacted one owner to see if we could buy 2 acres that border the property and he wanted an astronomical amount of money so we couldn't. Fast forward to now and a new developer has bought the property and their preliminary sketch plans have completely changed since the original sketch we saw from 1987. It is so dense and leaves basically no space between our property line and the proposed apartments and single family homes. We contacted the developer to see if he was interested in buying our property to expand his development and he never replied. I also contacted their real estate attorney asking for specifics on the setback measurements and he never responded. Since the land is zoned TPD (Totally planned development) there is no specific setback requirements listed on the town ordinance page. My husband and I plan on being at every meeting to try and get adequate setbacks and buffering along our property line, but I didnt know if there was anything else we could do? I am not trying to stop this development because I know I can't but of course privacy is a huge concern along with many other environmental factors. I received the FOIL report for the property and there are wetlands they are trying to build around as well. Not sure if anyone has been through something similar and could give some advice.
