Mark My Location - WTF?

I threw a disc (disc golf) into some trees with poor access, but thought I could get to that spot more easily from another direction. I went as close as I could, used Mark My Location, and then went around to the other side. When I looked at the map, my marked location had been moved to the main driveway of the college that I was at. Great. So I went back, used Mark My Location again, saved the location to a note, and then went back around to the other side. When I got close, I opened the note and the marked location showed as the center of the campus, NOT where I had been. Both times, the location was exactly where I was when I saved/marked it.

Is this just broken? My location is where I was standing when I marked it. I don't see the value in moving that location to some other point. If I want to mark a spot, I want that spot, not the mailing address of that spot or the visitor's center or whatever.

Am I using this wrong? Apple suggests to drop a pin instead (pretty much saying that Mark My Location isn't a good choice for...umm... marking one's location) but that has limitations too, and they then say to copy the lat/long from the info pop-up and paste it somewhere... really? Can't I just mark my freakin' location?
