I've been building a self-hostable outbound API gateway for 8 months

Need Help

Hey r/selfhosted πŸ‘‹

I launched the first version of this project 8 months ago on Product Hunt and have been iterating since. It's now stable enough to share here properly.

What it does:

Asstgr is an outbound API gateway you can self-host. Instead of hardcoding third-party API integrations (Stripe, OpenWeatherMap, GitHub, whatever) directly into your apps, you register them once in Asstgr and call everything through a single unified endpoint.

```
Your app β†’ Asstgr /execute/ β†’ Any third-party API
β”‚
β”œβ”€ OAuth 2.0 (auto token refresh)
β”œβ”€ Per-user quota enforcement
β”œβ”€ Rate limiting
└─ Audit logs
```

Self-hosting stack:

- Django 5 + Django REST Framework

- PostgreSQL

- Daphne (ASGI)

- Runs fine on a basic VPS

Key features:

- Register any API with its endpoints, parameters, headers and auth config

- OAuth 2.0 support: `client_credentials`, `authorization_code`, `password` flows with automatic token refresh

- API key auth (`sk-...`) with per-key rate limiting (burst + sustained)

- Monthly quota system with configurable credit cost per API

- Response formatting: raw JSON, compact, standard, or verbose human-readable

- Full call logs (user, endpoint, status code, response size)

- Everything configurable via REST API β€” no UI required

Why I built it:

I was tired of re-implementing the same auth + request logic across projects every time I needed to talk to an external API. Centralizing this in one place means I update credentials once, control costs per user, and have a single audit trail.

Happy to help anyone get it running locally. Feedback on the architecture is very welcome β€” still a lot to improve.
