Iphone Flashlight turning off the second I touch my screen

Not sure why it took Apple this long to give us an option to disable the camera swipe on lock screen feature. I could turn on my flashlight and by the time I turn my phone around to use it it's off because I swiped to the camera by accident. It made using my phone as a flashlight extremely inconvenient for tasks that I need to hold the light with.
