How are ice skates supposed to fit?

I purchased riedell crystals because they were the only brand my ice rink sold, and I purchased a narrow size but my ankles still lift. If I got any size smaller, my feet would be smushed. He said I have wide balls of my feet but a narrow heel. It didn’t bother me too much in the beginning of my skating journey because it was just spins and glides, but now that I’m trying to jump, it feels impossible because my ankle is lifting. Can someone help? Thank you!
