Should I friend request?

There’s this girl who used to be in my class, 2 years and I didn’t say a peep. Anyway, a year later (10 months or so) she’s come up on my suggestions for Facebook and instagram. Is it worth proceeding? I don’t want to seem like this weird guy who is friend requesting out of the blue.

I’ve always wanted to approach this person but when it comes to the opposite sex in an attraction perspective i just can’t seem to coordinate myself properly. Am I taking it too seriously?
