Lucy’s toy interaction

I just stole Lucy’s toy off her grave at Sparse Sunday Grove and the child there asked me for it back. I’ve been playing this game since Beta and have been to this location many times to grab cranberries and never seen this. Is it new or have I just missed it for 8 years?
