[TOMT] Help me find a book series i recall reading when I was younger (I might go crazy)

I am going through this "book slump" and what I am trying to do to get myself out of it is my rereading books I remember got me into reading. For this particular series, I read way back when I was younger in 2014-2016. What I can recall of this book series is that it is either a children's book or YA (young adult), sort of like Harry Potter was with sci-fi and fantasy. The main character we are focused on is a boy who is kept away from the "magical" things that exists in the world that only few people other then those who actually possess powers know about. I believe he lives with his mother or older brother (strongly believe its the older brother, who then is the one who tells him the truth of the magic and stuff when he learns the main character also has powers too) and has no idea of his father and the magic that his side of the family possess. He isn't told the truth until he accidentally "slips" into a different reality/dimension in his sleep that is different then the real world. What makes it different is that only people who have powers can access it so it tends to look like the normal world, but with much less people (barely any at that). It is because of this that when the boy "slips" into this different reality, he thinks that he woke up in a zombies apocalypse of sorts, freaks out and robs a grocery story to get survival stuff like canned food which he proceeds to hide in his closet. Another thing I remember is that he has similar powers to his father which is the ability to retrieve info from people, but in addition to that, he can also just get information from out of thin air which makes him extra special (he confirms this during an interrogation he performs with his father). A person then will give a tattoo to those who got powers, which I think is just a random animal that represents what they posses. Similar to his father, he got a bird tattoo but his bird is of a slightly different breed due to the special nature of his powers. In one point in the series, he actually uses this gift of his to perform CPR on an infant baby taken out of a burning home and saves it. At another point, he saves the group hes with from a close call when he senses that something was off and that they needed to drive away from where they were at because the weather was going to start to get deadly/worse (people doubted him when he mentioned this but his brother listened, understanding that this was his ability which is later confirmed when the weather did indeed become worse). Little things that I recall is that his father and/or his fathers side of the family are not good people, during the "slip" into the other reality he discovers a lonely girl living in the house next door, and finally using a dagger-sort-of-weapon can help enhance their ability to use their powers. HELP ME FIND THE SERIES PLEASE!!
