Picked up a free table saw - what do I need to do to make sure it's safe?

I'm a medium experienced DIYer in a small home who is comfortable with a variety of tools for remodeling projects and building furniture - comfortable with miter saws, jig saws, circular saws, and previously used a circular saw with a BORA edge clamp to do rips.

I've avoided having a table saw got years because I'm scared and never used one and also didn't want to drop $500 for something I only had an occassional use for.

That said, a neighbor gave me their old Ryobi table saw for free - it was given as is.

How do I check to see if it's safe and good to use?
What maintenance can I do on it to get it back up to speed?

From the pictures, is anything missing that NEEDS to be replaced, and are there recommended after market items I should get? I see the fence is missing and...maybe a saw guard or riving knife?

What's the best way to learn how to use this safely?
