Feeling hopeless as a blind person
Hi, lately things have sort of been hitting me as my birthday just passed and I am now 40 years old. I have been blind for about 7 years now but had very poor vision since I was born. I'm sort of feeling really lost and sort of hopeless because I've been noticing a trend mainly with men, actually only men. It's getting harder to make friends, it's getting harder to feel like I belong in society when I keep getting this over and over again. I keep finding myself meeting people and being around people who find it amusing to joke about harming me, abandoning me, or embarrassing me just the other day I had a man, sadly a cop which that's irrelevant realistically but I figured he would have a little bit better decency joking about abandoning me at a gym and laughing at me trying to find my way around and then calling friends and saying there's some strange girl lost and acting weird at the gym. Then, before that I had another gentleman laughing about deliberately tripping me and flipping me off and if not for my friend telling him to knock it off he thought it was hysterical that he could do all kinds of blue gestures at me and I couldn't see it. I don't know what I do to deserve this? Like why is it funny to be like this to somebody who can't help their situation? What's sad for me, is I'm always getting it from men. Talking about tripping me, putting their genitals in my face when I can't see it, abandoning me and so on. I'm just starting to sort of lose hope and humanity. It's hard enough getting treated like an ignorant child simply because I'm blind, but now I get to deal with this. I've been denied seven dates in the past year because the moment that I actually tell them that I'm blind, they stop talking to me, literally they stop talking to me. One guy actually admitted that he didn't want to go out with me because he said that my friend would tell me whether or not he was good looking enough and so he didn't want to deal with that. Even though it really didn't matter. It's harder and harder to make friends, I have one good friend and that's it. I'm so thankful for her because she's been my friend for nearly 24 years. It's just heartbreaking that people literally get humor out of harming me and abusing me. I guess I'm just sort of wondering if this is humanity because I'm not feeling so good about it. It's making me depressed, and quite honestly uninspired to stay. Anyway I'm just sort of venting I guess for anyone who's listening. I was going to post on the blind reddit, but this is a brand new account so I can't. Maybe somebody will
